Dragon Story Forum Hatch and Raise Your Own Dragons VideoThe Dragon Story
He hissed a few words, and sprang at me. We met in midair, but his magic caught me and twisted me around. I landed in his arms, my back to him, perfectly exposed.
He let me go after a moment, and I tried again. I'd been trying for about two hours to best him, but no matter what I did, he always seemed to win.
I briefly wondered how our race had been so desolated when there were dragons like Cyprin, but then I remembered that at that time, there hadn't been any dragons like Cyprin.
They'd all been peaceful, none of them really knew how to fight. That had come later. I swiped at Cyprin with my claws, and he met the blow with his own.
Our claws scraped against each other, making a dull grinding sound. I swung with my other arm, muttering a spell under my breath.
Cyprin blocked my blow, but not my spell. It swept his feet out from under him, and he landed on his back with a grunt. I was on him instantly, but he regained control.
I felt his claws digging into my belly, and winced. Cyprin threw me off him, and I landed in a corner.
I looked up to find him already advancing for another round. Come on, we've been at this for hours!
Cyprin raised an eyebrow, but he did pause. Do you expect them to play fair? As you learned last night, sorcerers do not fight fair!
They will do anything in their power to defeat you. And you will fall to them if you are so weak! The resulting concussion rocked the house.
I was pressed into the wall from the force of it, and Cyprin was blown off his feet. I felt the house groan, and quickly tried to cast another spell.
However, Cyprin was faster. The damage repaired itself at his command. I tried to stand, but my legs were too weak. I fell back, breathing heavily.
Cyprin helped me up, and let me lean on him. Matching my magic isn't something you've ever done before. That explained why I felt so weak. Cyprin helped me up to my room, and closed the door behind him as he left.
Unable to just rest like my body demanded, I picked up one of my mangas and started to read. Right here is where I'm supposed to recount some dream that somehow makes sense later but not now.
I'm sorry, but I don't dream. I woke up later than usual. The spell had taken a heavy toll on me, and as I tried to sit up, I almost felt like I was going to vomit.
I looked around desperately for something to puke in, when Cyprin walked in. He passed a hand over my body, and muttered a long phrase in the dragon tongue.
My nausea went away, and I felt a lot better. I nodded in thanks, and Cyprin inclined his head. I jumped out of bed, a spell already on my lips as I scrambled for my bag.
The spell was simple enough. I didn't have time to shower, but I would smell and look like I had. A glamour, but I could live with that.
Another spell and my hair was fixed. Another and my teeth were brushed. Those ones weren't glamours, though that meant that they took a little more out of me.
Great, now halfway through my second class I would be nodding off. Oh well. I cast another spell from the front door to start my car.
She hummed to life as I ran down the walk, and threw myself into the driver's seat. I heard a slight crackle, and looked over to see my phone lying on the passenger seat.
Cyprin must have seen that I'd forgotten it. I made it to school with two minutes to spare, pulling into my usual spot and killing the engine.
I ran into the school, and skidded into my first class. People stared, but I didn't care. I sat at my usual seat, and reached around in my bag for my book.
The teacher, a slight woman with a huge temper problem, walked into the class and closed the door. She started writing on the board, but I wasn't paying much attention.
I was reading my book, bored. I'd read and memorized the entire book already. Did I give you permission to ignore me? I looked up, to find most of the class staring at me.
Before I could answer, she continued, "Since you found time to daydream, you must have already memorized my lessons. I recited, "The Miasma Theory is the theory that diseases such as cholera are caused by miasma, or pollution.
That one wasn't actually in our textbook. She looked like she was going to blow. You will be here after school.
She went on with her lecture, but I noticed something. I kept getting odd, impressed, and even awed looks from the other students.
The next class was the same, sans teacher flipping out on me. The kids seemed to have passed on what happened. I got three requests for help with homework, which I turned down.
I was almost on my last nerve when lunch arrived. I had just sat down when someone sat opposite me.
Without thinking, I snapped, "No, I will not do your god-damned homework! Leave me the fuck alone! Brandon smirked. I'll fail at my own pace, thanks.
He looked askance, but I shrugged him off. I tripped on my doorstep this morning. Woke up late. Brandon nodded. You know, you're becoming a celebrity.
The kid who knows more than the teacher. You know that three kids in the class appealed to the principle. He's let you off the hook, and apparently the teacher is in hot water.
I swore inwardly. Dragons aren't supposed to gain that much attention. I just shrugged. Brandon bounced in his seat.
A human, coming home with me? Cyprin would have a fit. I almost shook my head, but Brandon said quickly, "If you're too busy, I'll understand, but I'd really like to see what your place is like.
I'd like to see what kind of home made you who you are. I smirked. My home didn't make me who I am. The fact that I'm a dragon made me who I am.
But he did make me curious. I froze, but it was over before I registered it. I went through the rest of the day in a haze. I wasn't thinking much up until I walked out into the parking lot.
Brandon was waiting for me, bouncing as always. I smiled, and walked to my car. He was behind me before I started the engine, in a dingy little car.
I looked around for my keys, but they weren't there. Then I remembered that I'd started my car with magic that morning.
I mouthed the spell that I had used, and my car hummed to life. I pulled out of the parking lot, and prayed that everything would go 'normal' while Brandon was with me.
I pulled into my driveway, and Brandon pulled in behind me. I got out, and led the way to the front door. It didn't really occur to me that Cyprin might attack me when I opened the door.
Of course, the instant the door opened, magic hit me like a wrecking ball. I flew back into the driveway, and hit Brandon's car.
Brandon himself was shouting, though I wasn't sure what about. I got to my feet, and felt another spell taking effect. I shook it's effects, and cast a spell of my own.
I heard a violent sound inside, and ran after it. The living room was a mess. More of a mess than I'd thought it would be. But I followed the noises in the kitchen, claws out.
I drew back my arm to slash. I was frozen for a minute, until she screamed and I was thrown through the kitchen wall.
I landed on the dining room table, crushing it to the floor. I crawled to my feet as the woman threw a knife at me. I caught it, to my surprise and hers, and threw it back.
She wasn't as lucky. I felt very hot for a moment, but then it faded. I smirked, and walked over to her. She tried to crawl away, but I grabbed her hair, and pulled her back.
Where's Cyprin? She struggled, growling like an animal. I felt a spell starting to take hold, and I spoke over her, forcing her mouth shut.
I grabbed the knife in her stomach, and twisted it. She yelled, and I growled, "Where. She glared, but said, "The older dragon is being held at the warehouse by the river.
She gasped, but she was already mostly dead. I spun, mouth open to use magic, but only Brandon was standing there.
This was not the day I wanted a human to be complicating things. I pushed past him. Stay, come with me, go home. Up to you.
But hurry up. Brandon followed me, though a little slowly. I growled, and pulled him along. I pushed him into the passenger side of my car, and started it with a spell.
He jumped, but I ignored him. I backed up so quickly I thought my car might flip when I spun it around, but it stayed firmly on the road.
And then I was speeding towards River Way. I can look human, but I'm not. I can use magic, and Cyprin, my 'father' is another dragon charged with protecting me.
There are humans who know how to use magic, and they hunt dragons. I cut him off. Yeah, most people think so. That's why we don't tell people about us.
Technically, I'm breaking the law right now. Brandon faced me. I nodded, and pulled onto River Way. You will stay in the car.
If I don't come out, go home and go on with your life. They don't have any reason to bother you. Got it? He nodded weakly.
I got out of the car, but left it running. Not looking back, I ran to the doors and forced them open. I let out a roar when I ran into the warehouse, gathering all my strength for a blowout.
I knew that this wouldn't be easy, or even possible. I was likely going to my own death. They had taken Cyprin, who was much more powerful than me.
I was expecting to die. What I wasn't expecting was to see a single man, highlighted by the glow of industrial lighting. He stood easily, relaxed.
I glanced left and right, but there was no-one else. I let my magic fade slightly. I didn't have time for games. Tell me, or I'll splatter you across the walls.
I had no doubts that I could blast this human sorcerer into next week. Very messily. The man raised an eyebrow, not seeming the least bit worried.
Why, when I was your age, dragons didn't talk to their elders that way. I clenched my teeth. Invite your Storm8 friends to play with you.
